Memorial services for Arvin “Doc” Carson, 59, Lawrence, KS will be at 2pm Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Inurnment will be at later date in Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis, KS.
Mr. Carson died Friday, Feb. 15, 2008 at his home.
He was born Feb. 20, 1948, in Clay Center, the son of John H. and Leona (Taddiken) Carson.
Mr. Carson served in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam era and was stationed in Germany. He received a Bachelor of Science in Philosophy and Psychology from the University of Kansas
He owned and operated Doc’s Mowing Service for 30 years. He was a trustee of Big Springs United Methodist Church. He was a 4-H woodworking leader for 20 years and received the Friends of 4-H Award.
Doc Carson was an author and published Gone Shopping, an Odyssey of Discovery, distributed through his company, High Way Publishing. He taught a Life Skills course at Lawrence Continuing Education and organized community discussion groups. He and his wife published a Perspectives newsletter for 10 years.
He married Sue Shafer on Dec. 20, 1970, in Ada, KS. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include two brothers, John V. (Audrey), Bennington, KS and Roger (Linda), Ottawa, KS, and their children, David Carson, Michele (Derek) McKellips, and Thad (Krista) Carson.
Visitation will be at the mortuary, Wednesday, 6pm – 7:30pm
The family suggests memorials to the Douglas County 4-H “Doc Carson Memorial Woodworking Award,” Big Springs United Methodist Church, Douglas County Visiting Nurses Rehabilitation and Hospice Care, or the Minneapolis, KS Public Library.
